Chan Sook Choi

Chan Sook Choi focuses on shifting bodies, displaced beings, lives held on the border. Her experience as a foreigner moving between Korea and Berlin has long formed the foundation of her practice. Grounded in artistic research, she works across exhibitions, performances, and moving image, pursuing narrative experiments that render perceptible those whose existence lies beyond the reach of documentation and representation.

qbit to adam begins with the "Copper Man," a mummified body discovered in a Chilean copper mine in 1899. Buried underground for thousands of years, copper and flesh permeated one another until the body turned green — no longer simply an archaeological find, but a question in itself. From the mining of minerals in the past to the mining of cryptocurrency today, land and body alike have continuously been made objects of ownership and exploitation. Tracing this long, recurring history downward, the single-channel video brings to the surface a question that has long lain buried, deep underground.
