Do-Hee Kim
Do-Hee Kim, the artist, travels through time using her body as a conduit. Born in the shipyard a village in Yeongdo, Busan, also known as the "Kangkangee"
village, she spent her early years amidst the deafening noise of scraping barnacles off ships and removing rust in the shipyard. She grinds the walls of the shipyard with relentless effort. The scene is filled with vibrations, noise, and dust. Even the performing artist gradually blurs into obscurity.
*Plywood, dust, and the performer intertwine boundlessly within the space. In this manner, the artist seems to embark on a journey to the open sea of her childhood in Busan. The grinded wall was the wall of the Jin Gallery, where the artist held a solo exhibition in 2017. The white wall, peeled layer by layer during the grinding process, reveals the colors of the paint from the previous exhibitions like layers of skin. Among the seven plywood pieces, two were there on display.
