Gang Su-bin
A sculpture made of small mirror fragments reflects myself and my surroundings in an unfamiliar way. This is an installation piece by Kang Subin, who is interested in the process of defining and clarifying the uncertain and ambiguous world of experience, focusing on the phenomena of condensation and distortion that emerge in this process. The mirror sculpture, which Kang Subin has created by cutting and assembling the fragments into various shapes, presents the world as cut, omitted, warped, mixed, and flipped. In this work, the mirror is no longer an object that reflects the world as it is. Just as people perceive and feel the same thing differently, depending on the way it is cut, joined, oriented, or shaped, the mirror becomes more like "glasses" that reflect entirely different images. Through Kang Subin’s glasses, I hope viewers will confront a newly drawn version of themselves and their surroundings, and become aware of the glasses they are wearing themselves.
