Jung-yeob Jung

Countless beans were contained in a large sack. One day, Jung-yeob Jung decides to take out the beans from the sack, one by one. One bean, two beans, three beans... And then the bean became a seed. A seed is a life, the universe. It’s a point, moving.

At the time of the Jeju April 3 incident, the estimated number of victims is around 30,000. It's an immense number, accounting for 10 percent of Jeju's population. Just like the expression “around"" and ""percent,"" it's difficult to grasp each and every victim. The 30,000 beans on the canvas are an attempt to gently touch each of these unjust individuals. The beans gather to appeal for their resentment, then roll and explode, recounting their stories like a volcano.

While the ideological battles and the full tale of a grand conspiracy are important, the desire to soothe and resolve the injustices of each individual, one by one, is truly compelling. This urgent desire resonates in the artist's hand, guiding the hand to draw the beans.
