Suh Yong-sun

Seo Yong-sun, a leading figure in the Korean art scene known for his heavy brushstrokes and vibrant colors, presents a large self-portrait, Buddha sculptures, and historical paintings in this exhibition. In Sydney Self-Portrait (2020-2021), where he sits facing a window framed like a picture, and in Self-Portrait NJ (2021), where the artist stands within a fragmented body, either his own or another's, the artistโ€™s gaze burns with intensity. A lover of self-portraits, Seo often begins his day by painting one, continuously "rewriting" his perception of the external world, and extending that to the boundaries of history and social phenomena.
