Wang Xiaojin

Wang Xiaojin explores the relationship between tradition and the contemporary through a restrained visual language. Grounded in long-standing humanistic inquiry and the study of art history, he pursues essential forms of expression over technical virtuosity, continually moving beyond established conventions and familiar painterly styles in search of new possibilities. In recent years, he has further reduced the use of complex media, returning to the fundamental language of drawing as a means of engaging traditional art from a contemporary perspective.

The Way of the Gentleman · Yang continues this restrained approach, reinterpreting traditional painting and Eastern philosophy through a contemporary lens. Using only fabric, silk paper, and pencil, the work allows layers of time, history, and culture to quietly accumulate across its surface. Rather than simply reproducing tradition, it reexamines the histories of art and visual culture from the standpoint of the present, generating new meanings through this renewed perspective.
