Zhang Chunhua
Zhang Chunhua explores the memories of an era and the structures of society through everyday landscapes and ordinary objects. Drawing upon the collective memories and traces of daily life shared by a particular generation, he presents familiar scenes from an unfamiliar perspective. Spaces emptied of people and the objects left behind quietly reveal the sensibilities, ways of life, and social order accumulated over time.
Untitled
2023, oil on canvas, 200 × 400 cm
Untitled presents an ordinary landscape emptied of human presence, inviting viewers to look again at the familiar scenes of everyday life. Streets and objects bearing the traces of a particular era remain, while the activities and signs of life once embedded within them have been deliberately removed. Within these absences, the ways of life and social order of an era remain clearly visible. The absence of people brings into sharper focus traces that had long gone unnoticed through familiarity, encouraging us to recognize the underlying structures of the world we have long taken for granted.
